Diabetic Eye Exams
Diabetes can affect your eyes in ways that may not be immediately noticeable, making regular eye exams essential. Our diabetic eye exams are designed to detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, and other complications caused by diabetes. With advanced imaging technology and specialized testing, we monitor the health of your eyes and tailor treatment plans to prevent vision loss. Early detection and proactive care are key to maintaining clear, healthy vision and managing your diabetes effectively.
How Does Diabetes Affect Vision?
Diabetes can lead to serious eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, which damages the blood vessels in the retina. This can result in blurred vision, vision loss, and even blindness if not detected early. Other complications include cataracts and glaucoma, both of which can worsen with prolonged high blood sugar levels.
How Often Should You Get an Eye Exam?
If you have diabetes, it’s recommended to have a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. However, if you have diabetic retinopathy or other eye conditions, more frequent exams may be necessary to monitor changes and prevent complications.
- OHIP covers yearly eye exams for all patients with diabetes.
